this is so beautiful Laura. I watched every step very carefully and want to thank you for sharing it. the new heads look wonderful.

what I can't imagine is how the parts are casted to be hollow. is just a bit of porcelain put into the mold and some "openings" cut into it later? and how does the porcelain feel when it's de-molded? soft? stable?

I love the closed-eyed head, I love the elf ears, Laura! Great progress shots! It's all really coming along for you. Thanks for the updates!

Oh! That new wig is beautiful! It definitely suits your Margarite. And I love the make up and colors on the closed-eyed heads. The one with the third eye is especially fabulous.

Thank you Tencats and Kissabug for great comments!!! I love this wig too. The future doll with eye on forehead is very special - I want to finish her before big Artexpo in New York to show her for galleries. I want to sculpt the head piece for her from silver clay and make clothes. I have little time left to finish this project...

After you've poured porcelain slip into the mold, you wait until the plaster absorbs some of the moisture and the layer of porcelain in contact with the mold hardens. Then you pour out the remaining slip, and after waiting some more, you open your mold and have a hollow porcelain part with a thickness of a few millimeters. At this stage it has the feeling of leather.

Mind you this is what I've read as I never tried it myself.

Well I always say I'll get into porcelain dollmaking when I'm retired, but I would have to use commercial molds as I'm useless as sculpting. I'm not much good at painting either so maybe I'd better stick to doll buying!
You did a great job Laura. I can't imagine going that far in less than 20 years.
